Lev Vygoskys Socialcultural Theory - 1991 Words

Lev Vygotsky’s Socialcultural Theory Vicky Phillips ECE 101 Lev Vygotsky’s Socialcultural Theory Lev Vygotsky’s Cultural-Historical Theory is the idea that a child’s social environment was a major contributor to how each child developed. In my own experiences in the classroom I see how each child is an individual and how their development is a product of their environment. Vygotsky’s Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD) is the concept that having assistance and guidance from others, children can learn tasks that is too difficult for them to do on their own. Scaffolding is an important part of ZPD; it is the support and guidance while learning a new task. Lev Vygotsky was born in Orsha, Belarus in 1986. Multiple role play is when a group of children play supporting their different characters. An example is a group of children pretending to be firefighters, one drives the truck, another gets the hose, and another answers the phone. Clearly defined rules of play are when more than one child wants the same prop but understands they need to wait until the other child is done playing with it. Flexible themes is where children extend their play an example would be if a mom is playing that her baby is sick and she has to take the baby to the hospital and then she has to go to the drug store for the medicine. Language development at a mature level in play is when children use their language to plan and play out their roles with the other children. The length of play is where children extend their play of the same situation for more than one day. Teachers can make their classroom environment where each child can learn at their own maturity level. In early childhood classrooms, the teacher begins the year by screening each child to find what level they are at developmentally. This gives the teacher a beginning point of what each child needs to progr ess their learning. The classroom environment is child friendly with different play areas around the classroom. Sister Carrie Essay Paper Example For Students

Sister Carrie Essay Paper Theodore Dreisers Sister Carrie is a simple tale of a young, pretty eighteen year old girl Caroline Meeber also know as Carrie. When Carrie got on the train from Columbia City to Chicago she had only few cheap items in her trunk and her sisters address on a piece of paper. Being only eighteen she was still full of the illusions of ignorance and youth(Dreiser, 7). She was both afraid of the things to come and exited by the countless possibilities offered by one of the largest cities of the late 19th century Chicago. As soon as Carrie arrives in Chicago various obstacles face her. She has no experience at working outside home, which makes finding any work very difficult. She does not like the simple, and in her view, boring way of life her sister and brother in law live. Being this young and curious woman she yearns for more than what is around her. She has no education, no wealth to fall on and as we read the novel we also discover she has no morals. Even though at some point Dreiser claims that Carrie is the victim of the citys hypnotic influence(Dreiser, 79) it becomes clear that in fact she is not a helpless victim by any means she just simply goes along with anything and anyone who comes along. Tired and disappointed with her early days at a low paying hard work Carrie chooses to leave her sister the only real family she has in the city and goes off with a Drouet, a man she just recently met on the train. Carrie knew nothing about Drouet except that he seemed to like her and appeared to have more money than she could ever got her hands on. When she goes off with him there is no conflict within her, no regrets, no second thoughts. As soon as an opportunity to leave her boring life arrived Carrie took it and never looked back. All she cared about was the fact that now she no longer needed to work long hours for little pay. By becoming Drouets kept woman she no longer had to worry about getting comfortable clothing, good meal and money. People knew her as Mrs. Drouet and she liked it. Through Drouet Carrie met her next man Hurstwood, a manager at Fitzgerald and Moy. Carrie flirted and spend time with him without giving it a second thought. It did not bother her that Hurstwood was twice her age in fact he was old enough to be her father. She never stopped to think that someone of his position, and in her eyes he was definitely much higher on a social scale than Drouet, might be married, have a family, responsibilities and obligations to them as well as to others. To Carrie Hurstwood seemed drag in the direction of honor(Dreiser, 128), but how would she know what honor was and what it meant? She had none otherwise she would never leave her family to become a kept woman and soon after that a home wrecker. Hurstwood left his wife, children and respectable job to carry on his affair with Carrie. He even stole from his longtime employers to be with Carrie. In return she dumped him when he proved to be of no use to her in the quest for the better life. As Dreiser observed Carrie wanted pleasure, she wanted position, and yet she was confused as to what these things might be(Dreiser, 139). Even years later when she became a famous and popular New York actress she still did not possess what she desired. People admired her, she was paid very well, and yet there was always something missing. She never got married not to Drouet, not to Hurstwood; she just used them both to get ahead without even realizing that what she was doing was wrong and immoral. Instead she believed they did her wrong. .u3adb8eb571c6971986a59055eaa51376 , .u3adb8eb571c6971986a59055eaa51376 .postImageUrl , .u3adb8eb571c6971986a59055eaa51376 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u3adb8eb571c6971986a59055eaa51376 , .u3adb8eb571c6971986a59055eaa51376:hover , .u3adb8eb571c6971986a59055eaa51376:visited , .u3adb8eb571c6971986a59055eaa51376:active { border:0!important; } .u3adb8eb571c6971986a59055eaa51376 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u3adb8eb571c6971986a59055eaa51376 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u3adb8eb571c6971986a59055eaa51376:active , .u3adb8eb571c6971986a59055eaa51376:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u3adb8eb571c6971986a59055eaa51376 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u3adb8eb571c6971986a59055eaa51376 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u3adb8eb571c6971986a59055eaa51376 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u3adb8eb571c6971986a59055eaa51376 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u3adb8eb571c6971986a59055eaa51376:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u3adb8eb571c6971986a59055eaa51376 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u3adb8eb571c6971986a59055eaa51376 .u3adb8eb571c6971986a59055eaa51376-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u3adb8eb571c6971986a59055eaa51376:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Restoring Happiness Essay Therefore Carrie expressed no feelings of shame, regret, guilt or remorse for hurting Drouet and leading Hurstwood towards his lonely death in a strange city among strangers. Title IX Analysis Essay Example For Students

Title IX Analysis Essay The topic of Title IX is something that often receives a great deal of attention in the news and has the involvement of many people. One organization that holds strong interests regarding Title IX is a womans organization called NOW. NOW, has published several articles regarding the issue of Title IX and often holds very strong views in favor of strengthening this law. In the article, Save Title IX, NOW discusses the advantages of Title IX and some of the things they feel still need to be done to complete these ideas. For every one dollar spent on a womans athletics, three dollars are spent on mens programs. It is through using statements like these that Save Title IX helps deliver its point across to the reader that Title IX is still in the process of being instituted. There are several other statistics in which the author uses to prove their point. The author refers to numbers that were the case before Title IX was instated and the remarkable increase in the numbers in todays society, which is caused by the founding of Title IX. We will write a custom essay on Title IX Analysis specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now NOW organizations articles tend to be written for what appears to be a middle aged woman who is interested in keeping the ideas of Title IX practiced across the country. Often, the author refers to a statement or belief as we; or weve; assuming that the reader agrees with these ideas. Also, the author uses the word women fifteen times in her essay to get across the point that this issue is greatly affecting women in todays society. One area in which I felt there was a logical fallacy in the writing was from a reference to President George W. Bush Jr.. The author states that the Bush administrations department of education is taking steps to reintroduce segregation through sex rather than race. After, the article mentions that this is because they would like to allow the possibility of establishing single-sex classes for schools at elementary and secondary levels. When stating that the Bush administration is attempting to reintroduce segregation, her claim seems rather unfair and bias ed. One thing that this essay lacks is that the author fails to address any opposing views. This essay is strictly was written for a specific audience and therefore I feel that there was not a strong need for apposing arguments. However, if someone feels differently than this author, their views would be left unanswered and this article would most likely have no effect on the reader. While I feel that this article is a very strong argument in favor of keeping as well as strengthening the power of Title IX, I find that it is lacking the fundamental elements that are necessary in a persuasive essay. I do think that Save Title IX does a good job appealing to the audience that it is directed towards and can be used to reaffirm peoples feelings if they are in agreement with the author. Battle of Friedland in the Napoleonic Wars

Battle of Friedland in the Napoleonic Wars The Battle of Friedland was fought June 14, 1807, during the War of the Fourth Coalition (1806-1807). With the beginning of the War of the Fourth Coalition in 1806, Napoleon advanced against Prussia and won stunning victories at Jena and Auerstadt. Having brought Prussia to heel, the French pushed into Poland with the goal inflicting a similar defeat on the Russians. Following a series of minor actions, Napoleon elected to enter winter quarters to give his men a chance to recover from the campaigning season. Opposing the French were Russian forces led by General Count von Bennigsen. Seeing an opportunity to strike at the French, he began moving against the isolated corps of Marshal Jean-Baptiste Bernadotte. Sensing a chance to cripple the Russians, Napoleon ordered Bernadotte to fall back while he moved with the main army to cut off the Russians. Slowly drawing Bennigsen into his trap, Napoleon was foiled when a copy of his plan was captured by the Russians. Pursuing Bennigsen, the French army became spread over the countryside. On February 7, the Russians turned to make a stand near Eylau. In the resulting Battle of Eylau, the French were checked by Bennigsen on February 7-8, 1807. Departing the field, the Russians retreated north and both sides moved into winter quarters. Armies Commanders French Napoleon Bonaparte71,000 men Russians General Levin August, Count von Bennigsen76,000 men Moving to Friedland Renewing the campaign that spring, Napoleon moved against the Russian position at Heilsberg. Having taken a strong defensive stance, Bennigsen repelled several French assaults on June 10, inflicting over 10,000 casualties. Though his lines had held, Bennigsen elected to fall back again, this time towards Friedland. On June 13, Russian cavalry, under General Dmitry Golitsyn, cleared the area around Friedland of French outposts. This done, Bennigsen crossed the Alle River and occupied the town. Situated on the west bank of the Alle, Friedland occupied a finger of land between the river and a mill stream (Map). The Battle of Friedland Begins Pursuing the Russians, Napoleons army advanced over several routes in multiple columns. The first to arrive in the vicinity of Friedland was that Marshal Jean Lannes. Encountering Russian troops west of Friedland a few hours after midnight on June 14, the French deployed and fighting began in the Sortlack Wood and in front of the village of Posthenen. As the engagement grew in scope, both sides began racing to extend their lines north to Heinrichsdorf. This contest was won by the French when cavalry led by the Marquis de Grouchy occupied the village. Pushing men over the river, Bennigsens forces had swollen to around 50,000 by 6:00 AM. While his troops were exerting pressure on Lannes, he deployed his men from the Heinrichsdorf-Friedland Road south to the upper bends of the Alle. Additional troops pushed north as far as Schwonau, while reserve cavalry moved into position to support the growing battle in the Sortlack Wood. As the morning progressed, Lannes struggled to hold his position. He was soon aided by the arrival of Marshal Edouard Mortiers VIII Corps which approached Heinrichsdorf and swept the Russians out of Schwonau (Map). By midday, Napoleon had arrived on the field with reinforcements. Ordering Marshal Michel Neys VI Corps to assume a position south of Lannes, these troops formed between Posthenen and Sortlack Wood. While Mortier and Grouchy formed the French left, Marshal Claude Victor-Perrins I Corps and the Imperial Guard moved into a reserve position west of Posthenen. Covering his movements with artillery, Napoleon finished forming his troops around 5:00 PM. Assessing the confined terrain around Friedland due to the river and Posthenen mill stream, he decided to strike at the Russian left. The Main Attack Moving behind a massive artillery barrage, Neys men advanced on the Sortlack Wood. Quickly overcoming the Russian opposition, they forced the enemy back. On the far left, General Jean Gabriel Marchand succeeded in driving the Russians into the Alle near Sortlack. In an attempt to retrieve the situation, Russian cavalry mounted a determined attack on Marchands left. Surging forward, the Marquis de Latour-Maubourgs dragoon division met and repulsed this attack. Pushing forward, Neys men succeeded in penning the Russians into the bends of the Alle before being halted. Though the sun was setting, Napoleon sought to achieve a decisive victory and was unwilling to let the Russians escape. Ordering forward General Pierre Duponts division from the reserve, he sent it against the mass of Russian troops. It was aided by the French cavalry which pushed back its Russian counterparts. As the battle re-ignited, General Alexandre-Antoine de SÃ ©narmont deployed his artillery at close range and delivered a stunning barrage of case-shot. Tearing through the Russian lines, fire from SÃ ©narmonts guns shattered the enemy position causing them to fall back and flee through the streets of Friedland. With Neys men in pursuit, the fighting at the southern end of the field became a rout. As the assault against the Russian left had moved forward, Lannes and Mortier had endeavored to pin the Russian center and right in place. Spotting smoke rising from a burning Friedland, they both advanced against the enemy. As this attack moved forward, Dupont shifted his attack north, forded the mill stream, and assaulted the flank of the Russian center. Though the Russians offered fierce resistance, they were ultimately compelled to retreat. While the Russian right was able to escape via the Allenburg Road, the remainder struggled back across the Alle with many drowning in the river. Aftermath of Friedland In the fighting at Friedland, the Russians suffered around 30,000 casualties while the French incurred around 10,000. With his primary army in shambles, Tsar Alexander I began suing for peace less than a week after the battle. This effectively ended the War of the Fourth Coalition as Alexander and Napoleon concluded the Treaty of Tilsit on July 7. This agreement ended hostilities and began an alliance between France and Russia. While France agreed to aid Russia against the Ottoman Empire, the latter joined the Continental System against Great Britain. A second Treaty of Tilsit was signed on July 9 between France and Prussia. Eager to weaken and humiliate the Prussians, Napoleon stripped them of half their territory.
